Messy Hair, Don’t Care

Posted on November 25, 2020

Have you ever just felt like you can’t do ONE MORE THING? I get that way often, but yet my little girl constantly wants me to give her a craft to do, she wants to do something creative! So, here’s a couple of things I’ve used to keep her active, work on scissor skills, following directions and who gives a big whoop if it messes up!

Supplies you need:

  • Toilet paper roll (empty)
  • Constructions paper or copy paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue or tape
  • Marker

If you want step by step, visual directions check out Ms. Alisha’s video here: https://www.facebook.com/708483592516883/videos/319176782839075

Ok, now, get your kiddos, show them the pic or video and let them create! No, really, you could do that, but if you want to be a little more involved in your kiddos creativity…just glue or tape the paper around the toilet paper roller, cut strips down ¾ of the way from the top and train the paper to flop over…really, there’s no right or wrong way to do this….it’s called Messy Hair DON’T CARE!

Then, for some spunk and creativity, you can trim different layers into the paper. Your little one can also color the tips of the “hair” to give it a little jazz, decorate the toilet paper roller with eyes, nose, lips, eyelashes….let them go crazy!

Remember, it’s not about the finished product, it’s about letting them sit still for a few minutes, have fun and you enjoy them (either at the table with them or on the couch by yourself LOL).

Want to make a whole day of it? Check out these adorable scissor skills heads! You can even make your own out of paper and a sharpie! They just need to cut on the lines to make wavy hair!

So, if you’ve read this far, you’ve decided to go for it and we are excited for you and your kiddos. If you need to extend this activity, you can always play hair: rollers, hair chalk, silly pony tails…you get the idea! Just remind them that you only cut the paper; NO Real Haircuts! They will remember these days of spending time with mommy, way more than they’ll remember the finished product of these little crafts!
